Do you know what “Pretextual land-use planning” is? It can be considered recreation planning or environmental/access management being used as a pretext for a different land-use objective. Consider also that in British Columbia mineral tenure, Crown land access, land-use planning and recreation management can intersect in complicated ways. Follow the money into the hills of BC, the trail leads to lobby groups, controlling ideology, the battle over resources and land.
Rady creek road had been the centre of multi year looming government closure. For the people of trout lake, this isn’t just a road. Deep dive into the proposed reasons and listen to the those impacted as they look for answers.
How about 30 by 30? The target comes from the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, adopted internationally in 2022. Canada subsequently committed to the 30% target, and B.C. adopted its own 30%-by-2030 commitment.
Let’s not forget the 2030 WEF/UN goals of 15 min cities where you will own nothing and be happy or the Net-Zero drive to reduce carbon based activity. Every time we turn around we see government restrictions, control points, loss of individual freedoms that this country was built on. The erosion is real, the juggernaut is relentless. Where will you draw the line? What kind of BC will you leave for your children to inherit?
Here are a few questions that we need to ask:
When was the recreational-use mapping commissioned?
What exactly were they instructed to map?
Who requested the mapping?
Were mining interests/claims mapped at the same time?
Were particular mining companies or mineral tenure holders involved in the planning?
When were road closures/decommissioning first discussed?
Were those discussions occurring before the public consultation?
Were recreational users told the ultimate purpose of the mapping?
Were existing mineral claims subsequently cancelled, allowed to lapse, or made inaccessible?
Who acquired mineral interests after the recreational use was eliminated?
Did the government subsequently change the land-use designation?
Were internal government emails or briefing notes discussing future mining potential?
